Dog market in Kachmega
I have always been telling my friends from other parts of Kenya that we have a dog market in Lubao,Kach. Finally someone else has put it down for me.Here is the link.
When we were growing up our puppies used to be stolen. My dad finally lay a trap for the culprit and found out it was our shamba boy.A small puppy goes for 50 bob. It's still in existance from 1958.Absolutely interesting!
They even have a dog council for the traders.
"Samson Shaka, a council employee at the market, says the dog owners pay a levy of Sh20 each regardless of the number of dogs. "You see we charge them a flat rate because sometimes someone may come with about eight dogs but only sell one, so it wouldn’t be fair for us to charge them per dog," he says." They adhere to strict rules set by the council.
Oh, there is a permit required to move the dogs from the locals to the market!
